Safe water is the whole job

We run a pool company, so leading on water safety isn't optional for us — it's the responsibility that comes with everything else. Drowning is fast, silent, and preventable, and it's one of the leading causes of unintentional death for children ages 1 to 4. Almost every drowning is preventable with a few layers of protection working together.

The layers of protection

No single thing keeps swimmers safe. Real safety comes from stacking simple habits:

• Supervision. Someone should always be watching the water — a designated "Water Watcher" who isn't on their phone, isn't distracted, and knows they have the job. Most child drownings happen during a brief lapse in supervision.
• Barriers. Fences with self-closing, self-latching gates and pool alarms buy critical time by keeping little ones from reaching the water unnoticed.
• Swim skills. Formal swim lessons sharply reduce the risk of drowning. Learning to swim is one of the most protective things a person can do.
• Preparation. Knowing CPR and keeping basic rescue equipment poolside turns a scary moment into a manageable one.

What we ask

Of every host: keep your pool area safe and in good repair, keep basic safety equipment on hand, and be honest about your pool — depth, entry points, and anything a guest should know before they book.

Of every guest: supervise children at all times, know who your Water Watcher is, and never assume someone else is watching.
